Garden Society:
History:

Ravenfield Garden Society was created in 1987 with the aim of developing progressively the visual quality of the village year round for both the residents and visitors

It also provides a much needed social focus via events as well as a means of coordinating efforts to improve the quality of life in the village through traffic calming measures and fighting the proposed tip very close to the village.

Conservation of certain areas is also an ongoing project with the help of Jim Staveley from the Rotherham Council. The composition of this working group has changed since 1995 following various retirements with some younger residents now being actively involved.

The village consists of approx. 110 houses and 265 residents. There is no public house, shop, community hall or public leisure area for the residents to meet. Social events therefore take place in a private barn or garden, or in the form of carol singing round the village. The local school is also involved via competitions and pictures.

The Garden Society is self-funding through events or the generous contributions from all residents via an annual collection. The Parish Council also donates £100/yr., in return we participate in the Ravenfield Summer Gala. The funds are used to purchase bedding plants and shrubs, hardware and grass-cutting. Communications to all residents about the Competition and events is via a newsletter or notices and feedback is much appreciated.
